It seems that Botox is geared to become an all-purpose toxin, if ever such term does exist. After facial wrinkles, Bell’s Palsy, and incontinence, Botox is also set to remedy knee pain? Well at least, not yet.
Business Journal reports that Mayo Clinic will explore the botulinum toxin as a possible remedy for knee pain. Here are the other details:
The Rochester, Minn.-based clinic announced today it plans to test botox on adults at least 40 years old who suffer from knee arthritis (osteoarthritis), yet have not responded to medicines, exercise or physical therapy.
"There is now some evidence in animal and laboratory studies that Botox affects the sensory nerve endings that carry pain messages to the brain. Initial use in humans has suggested Botox may be effective at treating pain related to osteoarthritis," said Andrea Boon, a Mayo Clinic physician and lead researcher for the study.
If things will turn out right, Botox will have another one illness/discomfort added to its list of conquests, along with sweaty palms and eye spasms.
