Botox has been known to smoothen foreheads and brows. It isn’t surprising then to know that this cosmetic treatment is now injected into necks to smooth horizontal wrinkles and vertical cords.

There have been new developments in the use of Botox to treat several ailments such as Bell’s palsy, knee pain, overactive bladder, and migraine. The use of Botox on necks is increasingly getting popular with older clients as the treatment effectively improves the wrinkles and unsightly lines on the neck and jaw line.

    USA Today gives more details.

Now that faces are getting a lot of attention, people are paying more attention to the rest of their body," says Neil Sadick, a Manhattan dermatologist and president of the Cosmetic Surgery Foundation, the research and education arm of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.

He has used the procedure on dozens of patients, most of them women in their late 40s and 50s with the chin-to-chest bands that emerge with aging. After years of use, the neck's platysmal muscles hypertrophy and become more prominent. Botox helps relax the muscles, which shrinks the bands. The cost: $600-$1,000 a treatment, and the risks are rare: a slight and usually temporary difficulty or discomfort in swallowing, says Manhattan dermatologist Francesca Fusco. (Singers should avoid the procedure because it could change the voice, Fusco says.)

Botox has been the favorite remedy of doctors who are desperately looking for treatments for several ailments and so far, the toxin does not disappoint. We will be expecting more from Botox in the days to come as continued medical research is being undertaken.
