Stem cells, which come from the patient’s own blood can be used to produce better and more natural results in cosmetic surgery. They call this work as plastic surgery miracle since amazing things can be produced by using stem cells.

It is quite amazing to note that American can spend an estimated $13.2 billion dollars on cosmetic surgery. This is the figure that spent by Americans in enhancing their physical appearance through cosmetic surgery last year. And that figure is more than the gross domestic product of countries such as Bolivia or Brunei. Amazing, isn’t it?

The figure alone illustrates the amazing increase of plastic surgery spending throughout the years. And in all the procedures performed in 2007, Botox accounts for 2.8 million treatments, which cost more than $1 billion in the United States alone.

The tragic death of Donda West, Kanye West’s mother has brought out something good in the form of new legislations on plastic surgery. The sudden death of Donda has brought attention to the regulations implemented in the cosmetic surgery field. Lawmakers are now trying to impose new rules and stricter regulations in order to make going under the knife a lot safer for the patients.

Kanye West’s cousin, Yolanda Andersoin, and California Assemblywoman Wilmer Amina Carter submitted a bill to the California legislature. The bill requires a patient to receive physical examination prior to any cosmetic surgery procedure.

In Dubai, an Emirati woman died at a hospital after an allegedly botched liposuction surgery. The seven suspects who are accused of negligence have already been referred to court.

Records show that a 61-year-old British plastic surgeon with initials A.B. allowed the 41-year-old Indian cleaner, M.K. to participate in the operation. The doctors, A.B. and H.Z., a 55-year-old Egyptian anesthesiologist, were charged with professional misconduct, negligence and malpractice when they left L.H., a 27-year-old housewife to die at a hospital.

Doctors are quite alarmed at the way the number of teens asking for breast enlargement surgery is increasing. Reports say that young women, including high school students, are getting breast implants.      

Plastic surgeon Joe Mazza says that there is an increase of about 15 percent of young women asking for breast enlargement surgery year after year. He added that the highest number of breast enlargement patients come around porn or graduation.

Dr. Kenneth Dickie, a veteran plastic surgeon, believes that plastic surgery can become a positive life-changing experience. He talked before the members of the Rotary Club of Freeport and discussed about the benefits of plastic surgery in times of war, specifically, World War 1, when injured soldiers would return home with battle scars and physical defects.

Dr. Dickie said that doctors saw many persons coming in with disfiguring wounds, especially to the face. Then came out the necessity for reconstruction and repair --- the birth of plastic surgery.

"And this is where we saw so many of the people that may have had gunshot wounds to the face and things of that nature and this is where plastic surgery really began coming into its own," Dickie added.

Many surveys claim that good-looking people get better jobs and earn more money, aside from the fact that they are considered to be a lot happier. And this brings the question, “Would you get plastic surgery in order to help your career?”

Penelope Trunk, a career blogger and author, wrote a blog entitled “Plastic surgery is the next must-have career tool.” She stressed the results of the lookist research from Gordon Patzer’s book, Looks: Why They Matter More than You Ever Imagined, which includes a European study that found companies with better looking management consistently billed more hours at higher rates than companies with average looking management. This also seems to support the research that suggests tall, slim, good-looking people earn more money.

A growing number of middle-aged men who are geared towards having second marriages are turning to cosmetic surgery to turn back the clock and win the hearts of younger women.

The trend is described as “The Sarkozy Effect”, pertaining to French President Nicholas Sarkozy who married former supermodel Carla Bruni last year. Bruni was 13 years younger than Sarkozy.

The surgeons of the Harley Medical Group revealed that 50 percent more men aged between 35 and 55 had been administered with Botox injections to eliminate the signs of aging. Not only that, the demand for male breast reduction surgery has increased by 47 percent while 43 percent more men have undergone microdermabrasion.

The trend of young girls having breast augmentation has become quite alarming especially when an 18-year-old cheerleader from Florida named Stephanie Kuleba underwent a breast augmentation surgery on March 22 and died.

Dr. Frederick Lukash, a plastic surgeon, said that he has performed many breast augmentations on girls under the age of 18 for a number of reasons. He was wondering why there is so much attention has been focused on the fact that Kuleba was having breast surgery but there was little on the fact that she had malignant hypothermia, a disorder that occurs in every 5,000 to 50,000 patients who are given anesthesia.
