Many surveys claim that good-looking people get better jobs and earn more money, aside from the fact that they are considered to be a lot happier. And this brings the question, “Would you get plastic surgery in order to help your career?”
Penelope Trunk, a career blogger and author, wrote a blog entitled “Plastic surgery is the next must-have career tool.” She stressed the results of the lookist research from Gordon Patzer’s book, Looks: Why They Matter More than You Ever Imagined, which includes a European study that found companies with better looking management consistently billed more hours at higher rates than companies with average looking management. This also seems to support the research that suggests tall, slim, good-looking people earn more money.
Applying it on an employee’s professional life, would cosmetic surgery make one get ahead of the pack by getting their noses fixed and wrinkles removed?
Trunk answers by this by saying that we don’t actually get concerned or surprised when famous actors Cameron Diaz or Brad Pitt gets a nose job or have their ears pinned. As actors, it seems reasonable for them to really try to maintain or enhance their looks.
However, Trunk was caught off-guard when her friend told her that LA women ranging from normal housewives to corporate lawyers have had Botox injection. The trend is so mainstream that it is almost a statement if you don’t have it.
Trunk also stressed her prediction that we will all soon be enthralled with the idea that we will have more opportunity in life if we are all better looking. And since it is relatively easy to buy good looks, then people will start getting it through cosmetic surgery. “It will be something everyone does as they graduate from college, and not just the most rich and privileged kids. Plastic surgery will be for the go-getters and career-minded. Just you wait and see…” Trunks added.
