      Bradenton Herald has observed the growing trend in cosmetic surgery. Gone are the days when cosmetic surgery was the exclusive option for the rich and famous. Today, it’s all out for middle-class folks to avail; as common as having a facial.

      From liposuction to breast augmentations to face-lifts, fat-purging, age-defying, beautifying surgery is booming. Last year, reports the 6,000-member American Society of Plastic Surgeons, some 1.8 million of those surgical procedures were performed, up 4 percent from 2004.

      Generally, cosmetic-surgery trends can be summed up as sooner, smaller, more natural.

      Before, parents were having a problem with giving their children permission to have their ears pierced. Not long after, tattoos came about and parents had to deal with it as well. And now that times are changing and beauty is as its peak, they find themselves at the receiving end of requests for cosmetic surgery enhancements such as breast augmentation or rhinoplasty from their beloved children as birthday or graduation gifts.

      The current situation in the cosmetic surgery practice is far from likable due to its harshness towards the consumers. The status quo calls for consumers or cosmetic surgery patients to play the role of an investigator --- prying over matters concerning plastic surgeons and their practices, their backgrounds and specialties --- and hope that they are making the right choices. If in case they fail to make the right decision, they are going to suffer the consequences through major complications and perhaps a series of corrective surgeries while the unqualified physician --- usually an uncertified surgeon --- who caused all the trouble can get away with it. Isn’t that just a lovely setup?

      Kerri O’Reilly’s terrible experience, which was chronicled in Dayton Daily, is enough to get us all alarmed with the present scenario.  O’Reilly is a picture of a regular cosmetic surgery patient who hoped that her cosmetic surgeon would aid in alleviating her dilemma. What happened was the opposite. Aside from the fact the she woke up during her breast reduction surgery and had complications, she is now facing at least two more surgeries to correct the previous operation. What happened to her surgeon? Dr. Terri Savage looks like she got away with it, leaving O’Reilly with scars that will never heal.

      If you are considering breast augmentation surgery but can’t find the courage to do so because of fear that major complications might arise, then you might as well consider using chewing gums to perform a similar feat. That just sounds totally off, but this EuroWeeklyNews article doesn’t seem to think so.

      Following the accident that happened in Framingham concerning a young woman who died after having a liposuction surgery which was done at the basement of a condominium by a Brazilian couple, all eyes are set on the Brazilian community and their affinity to cosmetic surgery.

      Brazilians admitted that they are indeed devoted to cosmetic surgery but they don’t approve of the poor woman’s decision to have her body done at somebody’s house. They said that if ever they have surgery, they prefer to go through it in a surgeon’s office-based facility or in a hospital. They also said that they usually go back to Brazil to do it, since the cost is much cheaper there.

Now that she among other celebrities such as Larry Hagman, and Catherine Deneuve are about to appear for guest roles on Nip/Tuck, an award-winning drama about plastic surgery, controversies might emerge concerning the sudden shift.

      Nip/Tuck is on its way to its fourth season and it has been enjoying a tremendous success. The plastic-surgery-related TV hit is also about to bring in Brooke Shields, Richard Chamberlain, Kathleen Turner, and Peter Dinklage as guest stars.
