It’s not only the body that needs some sculpting. The face also does. But sculpting is normally done by removing fat. But what if the face doesn’t need a liposuction? What if the face needs to “go fat” instead of slimming down? Curious? Then, read on.
There is a certain medical condition, which is usually found in HIV patients. This condition is called facial wasting or lipoatrophy. Facial lipoatrophy, according to this website, is the loss of fat beneath the skin, which can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes. This picture shows how a person with lipoatrophy looks like.
It is needless to say that the condition makes the person look hideous.
Fortunately, modern medicine has a mechanism to combat facial wasting. This article proves that point:
But dermatologist Ciro Martins, M.D., could do something -- with a new filler called Sculptra. "It stimulates your body to produce collagen to actually increase the thickness of the skin," he tells Ivanhoe.Sculptra is polylactic acid tissue filler. Doctors inject it in up to 60 spots on the face.
"It's an unbelievable reaction. It's an unbelievable effect that you have on people's lives," says Dr. Martins, of Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore.
Sculptra can also fight one of the most common signs of aging by restoring fat that's been lost over time. Dr. Martins says it works very well for loss of tissue as it occurs with aging, but he's most excited about its effect on HIV patients.
Considering that Sculptra can also be used to fight the signs of aging, it looks like facelift surgery is up to a tough competition. What do you think?
