Interest-free deals worry cosmetic surgeons

This is again another part of the marketing strategy to get more people to undergo cosmetic surgery procedures. Only, this one is more enticing. Interest-free cosmetic surgery plans, anyone? Who wouldn’t want to have a taste of that?

The Daily Mail reports that a controversial plastic surgery group, Transform, is offering interest-free loans for patients seeking cosmetic surgery operations. The offer means patients can have a breast enlargement or a facelift procedure and they don’t pay interest for 12 months.

Transform defended the scheme saying it makes plastic surgery affordable to more people but critics said patients should focus on choosing a good surgeon rather than the best or cheapest deal.

Adam Searle, consultant plastic surgeon and a past president of BAAPS said: "Cost enticement as the primary force in medical decision making is absurd."

But Gary Nicholls, sales and marketing director at Transform, said it was simply meeting demand and similar offers are available for large household purchases.

He said: "We've seen a huge increase in people paying for surgery on credit cards.

"We wanted to establish a more affordable option and zero per cent finance packages are something we are all familiar with in our everyday lives, especially when making large purchases. Patients would have to go through the usual strict protocols with Transform's surgeons before any procedures would be carried out."

As long as Transform follows standard operating procedures in their cosmetic surgery operations, then it is not really violating any rule. It cannot be accused of luring patients into getting procedures for cheap deals if it has a pool of board-certified plastic surgeons who are tasked to perform the operations.
