A blog entry talking about doctor’s offices turning into cosmetic surgery centers was posted in this blog three days ago. That trend is really disturbing for it can lead to serious cosmetic surgery mishaps. The Israel’s health ministry has exactly the same reaction as it treats the situation very seriously.
Israel’s health ministry shows its disgust towards the current trend by seeking for an amendment that would prohibit doctors who do not specialize in cosmetic surgery from performing such procedures.
The Jerusalem Post has this to say:
Currently, any licensed physician may perform this lucrative type of surgery. The ministry has received numerous complaints about poor results, and there have also been a handful of deaths resulting from negligence.Patients going to plastic surgery centers have been misled into thinking that their surgeon was a specialist in the field, and managements did not take the trouble to correct this impression.
As soon as the bill becomes a law, there will be certain regulations to follow in order to ensure that the doctors who will perform cosmetic surgery procedures are really plastic surgery specialists, and that patients are aware of the surgeon’s background and other relevant information.
It seems that Israel has already been learning the lesson while here in the United States; the lesson has yet to be taught. It’s a surgeon’s job to do plastic surgery, so those who don’t specialize in it should stay away from it before any bad thing happens. It’s pretty straightforward, but it seems that we have a hard time understanding that.
