The tragic death of Donda West, Kanye West’s mother has brought out something good in the form of new legislations on plastic surgery. The sudden death of Donda has brought attention to the regulations implemented in the cosmetic surgery field. Lawmakers are now trying to impose new rules and stricter regulations in order to make going under the knife a lot safer for the patients.
Kanye West’s cousin, Yolanda Andersoin, and California Assemblywoman Wilmer Amina Carter submitted a bill to the California legislature. The bill requires a patient to receive physical examination prior to any cosmetic surgery procedure.
Reports said that Donda West died on November 10 last year when complications arose after breast reduction and tummy tuck. Yolanda said that Donda did not receive any physical exam before her operations.
Donda's death has also spurred other bills currently in legislatures in Florida, Canada and other regions.
The patient’s safety is what the bills are trying to promote, especially in ensuring that the patients will receive proper medical care before, during, and after surgery. One thing that the lawmakers are also trying to focus on is the qualification of the physicians who will perform the surgery. Certification from established plastic surgery societies is required in order for someone to perform surgery. This goes well for the surgical facilities these patients will be operated in.
