Here we go again. Another one of those pieces of news concerning folks in the corporate world seeking help from cosmetic surgery makeovers to land on their dream jobs. This time, the craze has invaded Korea.

The Korea Times presents the details:

Looks can kill in getting ahead in his or her career, according to a recent survey of working Koreans.

The survey author Career, an online job search portal, said that over three out of four Korean workers or 78.6 percent, say they have considered getting cosmetic surgery, believing that good looks will give them an edge in the nation’s tight job market.

Career conducted an online survey of 1,133 workers nationwide from Nov. 4-7.

This is something that isn’t new already. We think folks would only want to look better than their counterparts, that’s why they are doing this. We think that they just want to have an advantage over other applicants, and they are doing it as their prerogative. Sadly, the real thing is, they are left with no choice. Human resource managers are actually considering appearance and the burden of having the looks to match the skills lies heavily on the workers’ shoulders.

From the employers’ perspective, they would like someone with a good-looking image to represent their companies, human resource experts claim.

Among those who said they wanted to seek out plastic surgeons, 21 percent said they wanted to get a nose job, followed by those who wanted to undergo eyelid surgery, and those wanting dental work.

This does not sound very favorable. Appearance can be a factor but skills and knowledge should always be the determining factors on whether someone is fit for the job or not. This is not a good trend. But can anything stop it from turning global?
