The Hamilton Spectator contains an article that does not really speak well about cosmetic surgery. However, the author perhaps is just upset about what is going on in their health care system. It seems that health insurance in Canada subsidizes cosmetic surgery operations or something to that effect. These lines seem to drive the point home.
What a slap in the face these cut-and-paste yummy mummies give by stealing our precious health-care resources to sustain their vanity. When we all know there is a family doctor shortage and wait times for life-saving surgeries that are literally killing us, how dare they use up health resources on tummy tucks and liposuction.
Here in the United States, cosmetic surgery operations are not covered by medical insurance. Cosmetic surgery is entirely the patient’s choice, and since the procedure is usually undertaken without medical necessity, it is not considered to be part of the medical insurance coverage.
It is a good thing then that this is the case here in the U.S. If it had been different, more and more folks would react the way the author has reacted to situation – blaming plastic surgery for the inefficiencies or lack of effective measures that would prevent unnecessary expenditures to take place.
