Mesotherapy: A good alternative to liposuction?

Some people are always looking for non-invasive ways to enhance their looks. While liposuction and tummy tuck have always been popular names in body contouring procedures, some folks are just not comfortable going under the surgeon’s knife, literally. They sure want to have something done about their excess fat, but they don’t want their surgeons to cut through their skin. They are afraid of incisions, wounds, stitches, and scars, but they are as well aching to reap the results out of the ‘painful’ process.

This is perhaps the reason why several new methods have been sprouting all over the cosmetic surgery plane. Among these new procedures that gain popularity among clients is Mesotherapy.

Dr. Mark Baily, a physician featured in Toronto Star, has this to say about Mesotherapy:

It's the practice of using a series of almost painless injections just below the surface of the skin to break down fat and cellulite.

By injecting fat-melting nutrients right into the target areas, it breaks down the fat cells so that the fat is carried out of your system through the blood and is excreted through the kidneys and the bowels. Unlike liposuction it doesn't remove the entire cell but it opens up the cell so the fat is released.

Unlike liposuction and tummy tuck, Mesotherapy is non-invasive. There are no incisions, no stitches and no scars. Thus, it is not surprising to see those who dread wounds and cuts, flock to surgeons’ offices asking about this procedure.

Is it safe and effective? The American Society of Plastic Surgeons does not endorse the procedure, saying that further studies have to be made before this technique should be employed. However, doctors like Baily stressed that Mesotherapy is a safe procedure, with zero fatalities in its record.
