More teens getting breast implants, say doctors

Doctors are quite alarmed at the way the number of teens asking for breast enlargement surgery is increasing. Reports say that young women, including high school students, are getting breast implants.

Plastic surgeon Joe Mazza says that there is an increase of about 15 percent of young women asking for breast enlargement surgery year after year. He added that the highest number of breast enlargement patients come around porn or graduation.

This teen plastic surgery trend is caused by the desire to fit in. Teens want to be part of the crowd so that’s one of the reasons why they undergo plastic surgery

Of course, this scenario alarms certain experts, who are concluding that teens are trying to find themselves but they are misled into thinking that getting plastic surgery will solve their self-esteem problems.

Therapists and counselors are concerned that these teenagers are not mature enough to make such a huge decision for themselves.

Dr. Mazza does not hesitate to turn down patients especially when he sees something big is going on. One of his biggest red flags is body dysmorphia, a disorder in which a person thinks her body is distorted and needs constant repair, or surgery.

There is no legal restrictions to plastic surgery such as breast augmentation, however, getting breast implants is discouraged on young women under 18 since the body has not yet matured and the breasts are still growing naturally.
