Venezuela has always been known for its beautiful women. With four Miss Universes and a plethora of beauty-queen schools, Venezuela is no doubt a place where finely sculpted women get all the attention. But not for long. Men don’t want to get left behind. And they are starting to catch up to women in terms of taking care of their looks by going under the knife. More and more Venezuelan men are getting cosmetic surgery and observant experts just couldn’t help but notice the surge.

Before, men are just getting hair transplants. But now, they are getting rhinoplasty, liposuction, botox injections, eyelid surgery and implants in their chest and calves.

The trend has begun a long time ago in the United States. In Latin America, however, it is still a relatively new phenomenon but it is spreading very fast especially in countries like Brazil and Colombia.

Miami Herald has this to say:

Latin American men also are buying more creams and shampoos for their hair, and visiting salons for a haircut, manicure and pedicure, according to business owners.

''The taboo is over!'' cried Fernando Dávila, 37, a stylist in the Only for Men salon in Caracas. ``Men think of themselves the same as women.''

The leap may not have been so great. Latin America is the home of machismo, which often permeates relations between men and women from the bedroom to the office. But it's also a place where men donned gaudy clothes and slicked-back hair long before the term metrosexual came into fashion.

Plastic surgery experts have determined the reasons why men are turning to cosmetic surgery nowadays. Some say men are now taking care of themselves because they find women spectacular. Some also attribute the surge in male plastic surgery to competition in the workplace. Attractive people earn more than their colleagues so men opt for surgeries in order to stay ahead of the pack in the labor force.

Experts also noticed that men are more discreet than women when it comes to cosmetic work. Moreover, men who opt for cosmetic surgery usually belong to the upper class or business professionals.
