New Zealand has really taken matters seriously with regards to cosmetic surgery policies. It was already established that the problem of quacks and incompetent medical spas that offer cosmetic surgery procedures have been giving clients a lot of burden as the number of botched cosmetic surgery procedures has been increasing.
To remedy the situation, New Zealand’s Medical Council are in the process of setting new cosmetic surgery rules in order to protect the consumers from incompetent cosmetic surgery services.
The Medical Council states that the new cosmetic surgery rules are expected to be finalized by the end of next month. The standards will mean that only people with appropriate specialist surgical training and vocational registration can perform procedures that cut beneath the skin.
The council also says that through this, it will be easier to identify doctors such as Warren Chan, who was struck off the Medical Register in 1999 over several cases.
Moreover, the Foundation of Cosmetic Plastic Surgery is quite happy with the current development. The foundation says it's about time the issue was addressed.
Another concerned society, the Women's Health Action Group also expresses the same sentiments. Director Jo Fitzpatrick says health practitioners will have to give full information before any procedure. Doctors should also have to disclose their level of experience and qualifications.
The implementation of these new rules would mean fewer doctors can perform liposuction procedures but on the lighter side, fewer complaints about botched procedures will transpire.
