According to a survey conducted by the Associated Free Press (AFP) agency, more and more Portuguese women are coming to Argentina for their plastic surgery makeovers. It has been known that Argentina is offering first-class plastic surgery that is 75 percent cheaper than that of United States and European prices.
But it is not only the Portuguese women who are making the most of Argentina’s bargain prices. Spanish, French, and Italian counterparts are also jumping on the face lift bandwagon and saving themselves hundreds of euros.
Argentina has some of the world’s most experienced plastic surgeons working at globally deep discounts. Since Argentina’s 2001 economic meltdown, the exchange rate has gone from 1 peso to 1.5 euros, to nearly 4 pesos for one euro. This major change makes both surgery and travel expenses for Europeans traveling to the country amazingly cheap.
The AFP survey shows that a breast augmentation implant procedure costs on average 1,800 euros in Buenos Aires. That price is just one-third of the price patients need to pay for the same surgery in London, Paris, Madrid, or Los Angeles.
Guillermo Blugerman, a plastic surgeon who leads a team of 20 cosmetic surgery specialists at the Buenos Aires-based B & S clinic, insists that though the price is incredibly lower, the quality is the same. Argentine surgeons even claim that they are actually ahead of their European counterparts on some procedures. Laser liposuction for instance, which was developed in Italy, has come on leaps and bounds in Argentina, says Blugerman.
