We don’t normally hear about revision rhinoplasty in the news. But just because news about the procedure doesn’t land on the headlines does not mean nobody is getting the procedures.
According to a plastic surgeon based in Houston, Dr. Michael Siegel, nose job repair or revision rhinoplasty is actually a very common thing. Plastic surgeons are actually bombarded with requests from clients to repair their quite unsuccessful nose jobs (it doesn't stop there - revision liposuction has become increasingly popular as well)
Rhinoplasty surgeons admit that getting the nose just right for a patient is the most difficult cosmetic surgery to perform on the face. So it is inevitable that patients might find their rhinoplasty results unsatisfactory.
Moreover, results of rhinoplasty are dependent on the surgeon’s skills, his sense of aesthetics, and the patient’s ability to heal after an operation. No matter how skilled the surgeon is, everything boils down to the way the body heals after the surgery. This is something that neither the doctor nor the patient can control. However, it is also a fact that the patient may maximize the potential of getting the right results through choosing the right plastic surgeon.
It is always best to choose a doctor who specializes in facial plastic surgery and who is an expert in rhinoplasty (for example Dr. John Hilinski is considered my many to be a top surgeon for rhinoplasty in San Diego). By general rule, even the highly skilled surgeons normally perform rhinoplasty revisions on at most 5 percent of their own patients.
Lastly, patients must know about the number of rhinoplasty procedures a plastic surgeon has done in his practice in order to make sure that you are in good hands when you decide to go under the knife and have your nose altered.
