New techniques in cosmetic surgery have been developed as years go by. Silicone breast implants and Botox injections are just some of these new innovations. But experts are looking forward to better changes in the future as new studies are pointing to stem cells as the next big thing in cosmetic surgery.

Stem cells, which come from the patient’s own blood can be used to produce better and more natural results in cosmetic surgery. They call this work as plastic surgery miracle since amazing things can be produced by using stem cells.

The current trend in plastic and reconstructive surgery involves the use of fillers. Breasts, lips, and facial wrinkles have benefited so much from this technique. Fat grafting is widely used in this area where chunks of fat can be transferred from one part of the body and grafted into another part.

These techniques are amazing but they also have drawbacks. One obvious flaw is that the results produced by fillers do not ideally look natural. Not only that, results from fillers and fat grafts may not last as long as the patients would like. This is due to the fact that fat transferred to a new spot has a tendency to break down as time passes.

This is where the magic of stem cells is put to good use.

Stem cells have the ability to multiply and differentiate special types of cells, like skin cells or other tissues. Other stem cells can even turn into many different kinds of cells and can grow wide varieties of tissues, ranging from bone to neurons to organs and muscle.

So instead of using fillers to do the repair, stem cells will be used to fill out areas that lack definition and aesthetics, rendering a very natural-looking result.

Right now, there are plastic surgery clinics that are already employing stem cell principles in their makeover techniques. By using the stem cells from the human fat, taken out through liposuction, plastic surgeons can now enhance the looks of their patients using their own stem cells.
