Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction has been preferred by most liposuction surgeons over basic liposuction because of its ability to remove fat much easier and to do it in a much safer manner.

Basic liposuction and tumescent liposuction use the same principles. The only difference is that, in tumescent lipo, a large volume of fluid is injected into the area. This amount can probably be three to four times the amount of fat to be removed from the body. This technique enables the liposuction surgeon to remove large amounts of fat more uniformly with fewer skin irregularities, and less bruising and bleeding. This and more, prove that it is indeed a much safer method compared to basic liposuction.

After surgery, patients experience less discomfort because tumescent liposuction uses only local anesthesia. Common undesirable effects of general anesthesia are nausea and grogginess, and these are avoided with the use of local anesthesia. In fact, patients are usually alert after surgery and can move normally. They can return to a desk-type work within two days and can go back to physical activities after three to seven days.

Tumescent liposuction is an extremely low risk cosmetic surgery procedure especially when it is performed using local anesthesia and in an outpatient setting. So far, there are no records of deaths for this procedure. Moreover, fewer complications are associated with this procedure as long as strict tumescent guidelines are followed. Patients are generally advised to be mobile so that the risk of clot formation in legs will be avoided.

As a whole, tumescent liposuction is a fairly safe and convenient procedure for the patients.
