Woman dies after liposuction surgery

In Dubai, an Emirati woman died at a hospital after an allegedly botched liposuction surgery. The seven suspects who are accused of negligence have already been referred to court.

Records show that a 61-year-old British plastic surgeon with initials A.B. allowed the 41-year-old Indian cleaner, M.K. to participate in the operation. The doctors, A.B. and H.Z., a 55-year-old Egyptian anesthesiologist, were charged with professional misconduct, negligence and malpractice when they left L.H., a 27-year-old housewife to die at a hospital.

The doctors were also charged with allowing unskilled personnel to participate in the surgery. The doctors even asked a Pakistani nurse to wake the patient up even if the latter was still under anesthesia. This caused the victim to stop breathing, according to the medical reports.

The nurse was also charged because she implemented the doctor’s orders by giving the patient a reviving injection and the stopping the respirator, which caused the accidental death of the patient.

A 53-year-old Syrian hospital director, R.A., was also charged with failing to supervise the doctors.

Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Ali Saeed Khalaf has this to say about the case:

"Shortly after the surgery started, the anaesthesia doctor left the hospital for a personal matter... the plastic surgeon followed him shortly after that and claimed that the surgery had tired him ... they left the deceased under the supervision of unskilled and unspecialized people. Investigations revealed that the hospital's management turned a blind eye to certain professional misconduct and blunders in such profit-making surgeries."

This is a very tragic story indeed. The woman has fallen into the hands of careless individuals who clearly did not have the right to operate. Even those doctors do not deserve their titles. They should be stripped of whatever license they may have.
